Consumers, Members In Fox Valley, Wis., Report Their Cards Have Been Breached

APPLETON, Wis.–At least 40 people here have filed complaints with local police over funds missing from their accounts, and in nearly all cases the thefts are being linked to unauthorized withdrawals using debit cards.

At least one credit union is among the institutions involved.

One member of Fox Communities Credit Union told WLUK her account had had $505 removed from it.

Appleton Police said it has fielded complaints from the city of Appleton and other residents in the Fox Valley. Police added that skimming devices have been a problem in the area recently.

Fox Communities CU issued a statement that says, “We are working with members who have experienced frauds or identified suspicious activity on their accounts and are deactivating those cards immediately.”

Fox Communities CU told WLUK its computer systems have not been compromised and it is only members with ATM cards who are reporting issues.
