DUBUQUE, Iowa—Congressman Rod Blum (R-IA) spent a day working at Dupaco Community Credit Union’s Sycamore branch here to learn first-hand how credit unions operate.
As part of his visit, Dupaco said Blum learned about the CU’s history, met a small business owner, and served members on the teller line. Blum also met with Dupaco MoneyMatch participant Delora Beal, who led herself out of a transitional housing program and into sustainable employment and housing.
“We invite all lawmakers to learn more about how credit unions fulfill our mission,” said Dupaco CEO Joe Hearn. “It’s important for elected officials to see—up close—how we positively impact members’ lives every day.”
Dupaco noted that its Sycamore branch is located near the credit union’s 1948 origins, when 10 employees of the Dubuque Packing Company pooled their savings to start Dupaco Employees Credit Union on the philosophy of cooperation and mutual self-help.
