Congressional FCU Names New President and CEO

OAKTON, Va. - Congressional Federal Credit Union has named a new president and CEO.

The $1.2-billion Congressional Federal has named Tricia C. Szurgot to lead the organization. Szurgot was most recently CEO of Securityplus FCU ion Baltimore and succeeds former president and CEO, Montez Hairston, who unexpectedly died in August of 2023..

“Tricia was the standout choice from a deep pool of highly accomplished candidates. We are delighted that she has joined the organization as president and c hief executive officer and know she will help lead CFCU into a new era,” Board Chair James Kaelin said in a statement.

Congressional FCU said Szurgot is a “highly accomplished executive leader and credit union strategy expert” with broad professional experience, deep industry expertise, and exceptional achievement throughout her diverse 30-plus year career. 

“Pairing her transformational leadership vision and engaging style with her deep commitment for the credit union movement and serving the community, Tricia will be a tremendous asset to the organization to lead CFCU into the future,” Kaelin added. 

As its name implies Congressional FCU primarily serves a Capitol Hill membership.

An ‘Honor’

“It is my honor to carry forth the credit union’s mission and guide and shape a new and strategically innovative era of enhanced technology, member experience, and opportunity for our membership,” Szurgot said in a statement. “While I did not have the pleasure of knowing Montez before his tragic passing, it is my privilege to serve as president and CEO and continue to fulfill Congressional FCU’s deep commitment to our members, staff, and communities for many years to come. 

“My focus is putting our members at the center of our strategy to continuously evolve and develop ever-better ways to fulfill our commitment to being a positive, empowering, and enabling presence for our members, staff, and community,” Szurgot continued. “I look forward to growing our deeply talented organization and workforce in bold new ways that are centered on the continued financial stability of the organization and the financial well-being of our membership at every stage of their financial journey.”

Educational & Career Background

Szurgot is a graduate of the CUES CEO Institute, including executive certifications from Wharton, Cornell, and University of Virginia Darden School of Business. She holds a master’s degree (MBA) in economics and leadership, bachelor’s degree in business, and numerous professional certifications in banking and innovation, including Certified Futurist & Long-Term Analyst.
