Congressional Caucus Adds 2 More Speakers

WASHINGTON—Two House Financial Services Subcommittee chairmen – Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Mo) and Andy Barr (R-KY) – have been added to NAFCU's list of speakers for this year's Congressional Caucus, Sept. 11-14 in Washington.

NAFCU noted that it has worked with both representatives to achieve regulatory relief for the credit union industry.

Luetkemeyer serves as chairman for the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. He is working on draft legislation to create a strong national data security standard. NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger met with Luetkemeyer in May ahead of the House vote on the regulatory relief package (S. 2155), and NAFCU has also engaged with Luetkemeyer to obtain credit union exemptions from the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.

Berger met with Barr, who chairs the Monetary Policy Subcommittee, in March to discuss regulatory relief efforts. Barr is also the sponsor of a qualified mortgage relief bill; the House passed the bill in March and it awaits Senate action.

This year's Caucus will be headlined by Bob Woodward, who broke the Watergate scandal and is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and associate editor of the Washington Post, and Major Garrett, CBS News' chief White House correspondent.

NAFCU's Congressional Caucus is open to both members and nonmembers; registration is still open.
