Community First CU Names Successor to Retiring CEO John Hirabayashi

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.–Community First Credit Union has named a new president and CEO to succeed John Hirabayashi upon his retirement effective Aug. 31.

Sam Inman

The $2.79-billion Community First has selected Sam Inman to lead the organization. Inman currently serves as CFO and chief risk officer with the credit union.

In a statement, CFCU said Inman has been with Community First for more than 34 years and has “played a key role in growing its assets from $156 million” to its current asset size approaching $3 billion. He joined the credit union when it was still known as Educational Community Credit Union.

Inman was selected after a comprehensive national search.

Hirabayashi announced his plans to retire Sept. 6, 2023, saying he would stay on until a successor could be named. “I’ve had the privilege of working with Sam during my entire 28-year career with Community First,” Hirabayashi said in a statement. “He has been instrumental to our growth and financial stability. I am confident Sam will build upon our successes and take the credit union to the next level.”

‘Incredible’ Asset

Added Inman, “The credit union is an incredible local asset for our membership and our region. I look forward to continuing the culture of engagement with our employees, members and community.
