FRANKFORT, Ky.– Commonwealth Credit Union has responded to the devastating tornadoes in Western Kentucky with numerous ways of assistance ranging from fundraising to donations to help for members affected by the storms.
Among the efforts in which the $1.84-billion Commonwealth CU has responded:
- It teamed with the American Red Cross to volunteer for the WLEX-TV and UK Athletics Telethon in Lexington, where its team members answered phones during the telethon and the credit union pledged a matching donation of $15,000.
- It has sent an email to members who reside in one of the counties listed in the FEMA disaster declaration. The email contains a personal video from our CEO, and it is also available at www.ccuky.org/message-from-karen. In the video, CEO Karen Harbin shares CCU’s commitment to helping members through the difficult time and lays out some options that “might help them better focus on immediate needs as they navigate their next steps.”
- It launched a co-branded donation site for the American Red Cross through which members and team members can make donations. The minimum donation is $10. The site can be found at www.ccuky.org/donate. To date, the credit union reported it has raised more than $20,000 in donations.
- It hosted a coordinated a raffle for concert tickets to see Jack Harlow, a rap artist from Kentucky. Commonwealth CU said it received the tickets through its partnership with Old Forester’s Paristown Hall, and in less than one day was able to raise $685 through $5 chances to the tickets.
- It sent an email to its membership, excluding members who reside in counties listed in the FEMA disaster declaration, encouraging them to donate using its secure American Red Cross donation site.
- It relaunched its Member Assistance Program, which was initiated during the pandemic and is now reinstated as needed. The program includes a Member Assistance Loan, an extension to its Skip-A-Pay program, and the opportunity for further review by a designated disaster relief team.
Commonwealth Credit Union has more than 112,000 members.
