WASHINGTON–CUNA has announced two more speakers for its upcoming virtual GAC. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Chicago Mayor and Obama Administration official Rahm Emanuel will address the GAC in a point/counterpoint discussion.
CUNA said Christie and Emanuel will tacklesome of the issues driving Washington today, and how they’re likely to affect the communities and people credit unions serve. The keynote session is sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group.
CUNA noted as governor of New Jersey, Christie’s focus was on fiscal responsibility, pension and health benefit reform, and combatting the opioid crisis.
“His efforts to rebuild the state after Superstorm Sandy set a bi-partisan example for storm recovery. Christie was appointed as chairman of the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis under the Trump administration,” CUNA said.
Christie is currently a commentator for ABC News, has a private law practice, and is the author of “Let Me Finish,” which chronicles his rise to power and the 2016 election.
‘Record Education Gains’
Emanuel was the 55th mayor of Chicago.
“During Emanuel’s tenure, Chicago achieved record education gains, led the nation in corporate relocations and foreign direct investment, and dramatically reduced its deficit,” CUNA said.
Emanuel was White House chief of staff for President Barack Obama, served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and was a key member of the Clinton White House. He is also the author of “The Nation City,” which provides a clear vision, for both progressives and centrists, for how to get things done in America today.
The meeting is scheduled for March 2-4. For info: cuna.org/gac/.
