STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich.–Christian Financial Credit Union is building a new headquarters that will be nearly triple the size of its current facility.
The $12-million building will be at the northeast corner of 15 Mile and Van Dyke roads here and will include a 40,000-square-foot building on 8.5 acres of land. Ground has been broken and the project is scheduled to be completed by May of 2019, according to Crain’s Detroit Business. That facility will replace the 15,000-square-foot facility it built in 1970 when it had assets of $20 million.
Today, Christian Financial has more than $400-million in assets and approximately 42,000 members.
"Simply put, we are outgrowing our current facilities," Patricia Campbell, president and CEO of the credit union, said in a written statement first reported by Crain’s Detroit Business. "It's a good problem to have, but it presents some challenges. This new building will allow us the space to be able to collaborate, innovate and grow, and ultimately serve our members better."
The credit union is projecting it will grow to $600 million in assets over the next five years. About 100 people will work in the new building; it has 165 employees overall. Crain’s Detroit reported the parcel of land has sufficient room for a branch in the future, and that its current Roseville, Mich., office will remain open.
‘Neighborhood’ Layout
“The new office will be laid out in an open-style ‘neighborhood’ concept inspired by Cal Newport, a Georgetown University professor well-known for research and insight on focused success and productive work,” Crain’s Detroit Business reported. “It will feature personal work spaces and 14 collaborative spaces with themes including an indoor park, movie theater, library, coffee shop, outdoor balcony and hotel lobby.”
