Chime Moves Beyond Banking With In-App Investing

SAN FRANCISCO— Chime is expanding beyond digital banking and into investing with the launch of Chime Invest, a commission-free platform that allows users to buy stocks and exchange-traded funds or invest through professionally managed portfolios without account minimums—all from within the existing Chime app.

The move marks the fintech's latest effort to become a broader personal finance platform rather than just a checking and savings provider.

The new service enables members to purchase individual stocks and ETFs commission-free or select automated, expert-managed portfolios based on their risk tolerance. Chime said the investing tools are integrated into the same app where members already receive direct deposits, pay bills and save money, eliminating the need for a separate brokerage account or application. The company said its average member opens the app five times a day and completes more than 50 transactions each month.

The launch continues Chime's strategy of broadening its product lineup following its 2025 IPO. Earlier this year the company introduced Chime Prime, a premium banking tier, and executives previously told investors they planned to expand into investing as part of their 2026 growth strategy. Reuters reported in May that Chime expected investing products to help diversify the business beyond its core debit-focused banking model as it targets continued profitability.

The investing platform is rolling out with no account minimums, while automated investing will initially be available to eligible members before expanding more broadly. Chime said the goal is to make long-term investing more accessible for everyday consumers who may have been deterred by complexity, fees or minimum balance requirements associated with traditional brokerage accounts.
