‘Chiefsaholic’ Ordered to Pay Nearly $11 Million to CU Teller

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.––The man known as “Chiefsaholic” for dressing like a wolf at Kansas City Chiefs games and who earlier pleaded guilty to a series of robberies has been ordered to pay $10.8 million to a teller at a credit union.

Authorities said it’s unlikely she will ever see a dime of it.

In 2022, Xaviar Michael Babudar, 29, robbed a branch of Tulsa Teachers Credit Union in Bixby, Okla., where he assaulted teller Payton Garcia while using a gun.

The judge ordered Babudar to pay Garcia $3.6 million for her injuries and loss of income, and $7.2 million in punitive damages.

Garcia's attorney, Frank Frasier, told the Associated Press it will be difficult to collect the money for his client, but said the judgment sends an important message.

‘Nobody Should Profit’

“I think the judge feels that way,” Frasier told The Associated Press. “She did not come right out and say it during the hearing, but I argued that nobody should be able to profit from this, be it notoriety, clicks, views or likes.”

Frasier told the AP that if Babudar ever sold his story, wrote a book or was somehow able to profit from his story, his client would be able to collect some of the judgment against him.

As CUToday.info reported earlier, ESPN has said it plans to air a documentary on Babudar, who was well known in Kansas City and frequently featured on television and in social media.

Guilty Plea Entered

As CUToday.info also reported earlier, Babudar pleaded guilty in federal court to charges related to a string of 11 robberies or attempted robberies, of financial institutions in seven states, including multiple credit unions. He faces a sentence of as much as 50 years.

As CUToday.info reported here, Babudar was arrested in California following four months on the run after he had cut his ankle monitor in the wake of an earlier arrest. At the time of his initial arrest police said he was captured with money that had been stolen from a branch of Tulsa Teachers FCU in Bixby, Okla.

“Babudar walked into a (credit union) in Bixby, Okla., demanded money, and threatened to shoot them if they did not comply,” U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson of the Northern District of Oklahoma said in a statement. “Babudar posed a serious danger and risk to the public. I am thankful for the efforts of the Bixby Police Department, the FBI, and federal prosecutors in holding him accountable.”

Found With Cash

When Babudar was arrested shortly after the credit union robbery, he had a large bag in his possession that contained $139,500 in $100 bills plus $10,750 in $50 bills, totaling $150,250 in cash. When investigators searched his 2019 Mazda 3, they found numerous pairs of goggles and gloves, which Babudar wore during a series of bank robberies, the U.S. Attorney said.
