Chase Opening an Airport Lounge for Its Cardholders

NEW YORK—Premium credit cards have long dangled airport lounge access as a benefit. Now one card issuer is opening a lounge of its own as JPMorgan Chase opens the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club.

Chase has been approved to operate a new 12,000-square-foot premium lounge at Boston Logan International Airport, reported The Points Guy.

Chase already operates a number of other lounges for cardholders, but none at airports.

In October 2020, Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), the entity that owns and operates Logan, received four proposals from lounge operators. Those proposals came from American Express (Centurion Lounge), Plaza Premium Group (Capital One Lounge), TAV America Operations Services (Primeclass Lounge) and Airport Dimensions (Chase Sapphire Lounge).

Each operator was evaluated on four criteria: capital investment; rent; a diversity, equity and inclusion plan; and the term of the lease.

According to Massport board meeting documents, Airport Dimensions, on behalf of Chase, was awarded a 12-year lease at Logan for a new lounge with a $20.4 million capital investment, The Points Guy said.
