Charter Oak Awarding $100,000 In 100 Days to Charities

WATERFORD, Conn.—Charter Oak FCU said it will again award $100,000 in 100 days to 501(c)(3) charities by way of its Matching Gifts Program.

The credit union has relaunched its Matching Gifts Program which will conclude on Nov. 22. During that time period Charter Oak will match all qualified donations made by its primary members to 501(c)(3) charities. Donations will be matched in $25 increments; each primary member has the opportunity to have their charitable donations matched up to $500.

“Credit union membership has its perks,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s president and CEO in a statement. “We value our members, and are looking forward to offering them an opportunity to maximize their charitable contributions for the second year in a row.”

The Matching Gifts Program was first launched in 2016, and was well promoted by local charities including the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, Care and Share of East Lyme, and the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center.

Charter Oak said it has made several improvements to the program since its 2016 launch. Most significantly, the maximum amount matched was elevated from $100 to $500 making the program more impactful for charities and donors. In addition, charities will submit all information electronically to the credit union to expedite the processing of all requests.
