WASHINGTON—Carrie Hunt believes that once the dust settles from the Trump Administration’s efforts to reduce federal regulators’ size and possibly combine them, that NCUA will end up in a good position.
“No one wants there to be an inability to effectively regulate our financial institutions or financial markets,” said the ACU chief advocacy officer. “I have to believe that NCUA will end up in in a good place. Now, does that mean NCUA or other agencies won't have to shift resources, no. I think they will. But I think that will mean the (current Administration) will put them in the right places. So, I am not concerned about specific disruption to resources regarding safety and soundness.”
Hunt added, however, that the turmoil and lack of clarity regarding the Administration’s intentions with federal regulators adds another layer of complexity to the matter.
