Carolinas CUs Back Open Your Eyes Campaign

COLUMBIA, S.C./RALEIGH, N.C.–Credit unions in the Carolinas have launched support for CUNA’s “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” awareness initiative.

The effort involves digital-first messaging to consumers in both states and is designed to boost the number of consumers who give credit unions consideration as a financial services provider.

As CUToday.info has reported extensively, including here, the “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” initiative follows extensive research that revealed consumers hold a number of myths regarding ability to join a credit union and access to their money should they become a member.

According to CUNA and the Carolinas Credit Union League, to date 26 credit unions in the Carolinas have committed $6.83 million over the next three years to the initiative.

Consumers in North and South Carolina who engage with Open Your Eyes messaging will move to yourmoneyfurther.com and find more on what drew their interest, such as credit union background and benefits, as well as finders for nearby credit union locations and ATMs/shared branches, CUNA said.

‘Enthusiastic Commitment’

“The enthusiastic commitment and early financial support of the initiative is a reflection of the strong credit union leaders we have in the Carolinas,” CCUL President and CEO Dan Schline said. “We have a great story to tell as credit unions and are excited to see how Open Your Eyes helps us do just that.”

CUNA CEO Jim Nussle, who is largely responsible for launching the effort, added, “The Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union initiative is innovative, exciting and an enormous opportunity for all of us in the credit union movement. Following our first launch in Minnesota, we’re thrilled to continue this national effort in the Carolinas. Today’s launch is the culmination of great CUNA, League and credit union collaboration and is a perfect example of our industry’s cooperative difference.”

Prior to the announcement of support from credit unions in the Carolinas, CUNA had said $25 million had been pledged by CUs toward its goal of $100 million in funding to back the campaign over three years.
