RALEIGH, N.C.– The Carolinas Credit Union League board has voted in favor of a resolution to support an 8th Cooperative Principle that asserts an unambiguous commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI).
“Passing this resolution is another step in our commitment to further DEI efforts within our organization,” said CCUL President and CEO Dan Schline. “We also look forward to continuing education, advocacy and discussion on DEI across our two states.”
The resolution template, which any credit union or cooperative may download and complete here, the league noted, was created through a collaborative DEI initiative led by Local Government FCU (LGFCU), Civic FCU and the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC). The organizations are inviting credit unions and other cooperatives to embrace the adoption of the 8th Cooperative Principle.
As CUToday.info has reported, Maurice R. Smith, CEO of Raleigh, N.C.-based LGFCU and Civic FCU, led the call for the cooperative principles to include diversity, equity and inclusion in February of 2019, when he was serving as chairman of CUNA. Since then, many more credit unions, leagues and associations, including CUNA, have signed resolutions to adopt the new cooperative principle, the Carolinas league noted.
