TUSCALOOSA, Ala.–A mural that adorned the exterior wall of a credit union here has been badly damaged after a car crashed into the building.
According to Tuscaloosa police, on a late afternoon a Hyundai Elantra was turning onto University Boulevard from 28th Avenue when it collided with a westbound Hyundai Santa Fe.
As a result, the Santa Fe left the roadway and crashed into the branch of Alabama One Credit Union.
Police said a woman and four juveniles in the Santa Fe were transported to a hospital for “relatively minor injuries.”
Mural a Tribute to Community
The greatest damage was the wall of Alabama One, which has been patched with plywood. That wall features a mural that was completed in 2023 and which celebrates the Tuscaloosa community, depicting the now-closed Leland Lanes bowling alley, the wooden and steel truss bridge that spans the Black Warrior River and more, according to the Tuscaloosa Thread.
Alabama One said the crash forced the closure of the branch’s lobby but its drive-through remains open.
