California’s CUs Continue Efforts To Help Fire Victims (Including Own Employees)

PLEASANTON, Calif.–Credit unions across California continue to contribute to efforts to assist victims of the widespread wildfires in the state.

The National Credit Union Foundation has activated its CUAid, its online disaster relief system. CUAid is raising money for credit union employees, volunteers and members affected.

Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based CO-OP has donated $10,000 to the organization.

In addition to the efforts reported earlier by CUToday.info here, other initiatives include:

  • Patelco Credit Union is seeking to help victims of the Carr Fire in Shasta County, which has killed six people and displaced at least 37,000 others, by  offering assistance via its Disaster Relief Program. That program provides members with access to no- or low-cost loans, reimbursement of non-network ATM fees,  deferred loan payments and more. Staff members also came together to help pack more than 7,500 pounds of fruits and vegetables to be distributed as groceries to families in need.
  • Members 1st CU in Redding, Calif., has been using its branches as water collection sites for firefighters and evacuation centers. Approximately 17 employees have been affected by the fires.
  • In addition to other efforts, Sierra Central CU in Yuba City, which has had 18 employees affected by the fires in some way, has donated $10,000 to Shasta Community College, which is serving as an evacuation center.
  • The Golden 1 Credit Union, which has a branch in Redding, believed to be the origin of the Carr Fire, has had several employees forced to evacuate their homes.
