Calabria Nomination To FHFA To Get Vote Soon

Mitch McConnell

WASHINGTON—Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has filed cloture on the nomination of Mark Calabria to serve as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).

This sets up a Senate vote on confirmation in the coming days, CUNA noted.

Calabria is currently the chief economist for Vice President Mike Pence. The Senate Banking Committee voted to advance his nomination in February by a 13-12 vote.

CUNA wrote to the Senate Banking Committee prior to Calabria’s testimony, calling on the FHFA to “build upon and strengthen” existing partnerships between the FHFA and credit unions, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and Federal Home Loan Banks.

Calabria appeared at a Senate Confirmation hearing that also included NCUA board nominees (now confirmed) Todd Harper and Rodney Hood during which nearly all of the questions were aimed at Calabria.
