Cal State University Names Basketball Court After Credit Union

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State University Bakersfield Athletics has unveiled Kern Schools Court.

Earlier this year $1.5-billion Kerns School Federal Credit Union made a gift to the university to renovate the school’s basketball court. In return for the gift, the basketball court was named after the credit union.
"Kern Schools continues to make an impact in our community, our university, and our athletics department,” said Cal State Director of Athletics, Kenneth Siegfried said in a statement. “Thanks to their generous gift, we now have one of the best courts in the nation. Our new court is the same court that is used by Duke, North Carolina, Michigan, Kentucky, and the Los Angeles Lakers.”

The amount of the contribution was not disclosed.

"Kern Schools has a proud and long-standing tradition of partnering with CSU Bakersfield," said Steve Renock, president/CEO of Kern Schools. "Our campus-wide partnership and ongoing affiliation with CSUB goes beyond the court naming to include, among other things, sponsorship of the Kegley Institute of Ethics as well as awarding student scholarships. This relationship is designed to enrich student life in the classroom as well as with athletics and extra-curricular activities.”
