CUs in California, Michigan in New NIL Deals With College Athletes

LOS ANGELES–Two credit unions have announced name, image, likeness deals with college athletes.

Chloe Webb

In Los Angeles, University Credit Union (UCU) has entered into a name, image and likeness (NIL) deal with Chloe Webb, a basketball player at California Baptist University.

The credit union said Webb demonstrated “outstanding athleticism” and helped secure her teams' invitation to the NCAA tournament by winning the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) title in women's basketball.

The deal is the first-ever NIL agreement secured during the WAC tournament and is UCU's first NIL agreement with a student-athlete.

As part of the deal, the terms of which were not released, Webb has become a UCU member and she will participate in promoting the financial well-being of all members in the university community.

‘Excited’ to be Among First

"I am so excited to be one of the first student athletes to have this amazing opportunity to partner with an organization like University Credit Union,"  Webb said in a statement. "I think UCU is a great NIL partner because not only do we share the same values, but I get to represent everything they provide to support students, faculty, and university staff. I'm looking forward to this opportunity to help promote financial well-being within my community."

University Credit Union said the NIL agreement aligns with its 70-plus-year commitment to the academic and athletic success of university and college communities nationwide.

‘Amazing Player’

"We are excited to forge a partnership with this amazing player and person,"  UCU President and CEO Dr. David Tuyo II said in a statement.  "For us, this agreement is more than a promise. Our new relationship with Chloe represents our deeper commitment to providing students with the financial advantage they need to succeed in all areas of life. I can't wait to see what she does next."

As CUToday.info reported earlier, UCU serves as the WAC's official financial services partner and is the title sponsor of the annual WAC softball and baseball conference tournaments, which take place in May.

Will Johnson

In Michigan, the Maize & CU

Meanwhile, in Ann Arbor, Mich., the $1.3- billion University of Michigan Credit Union said that it has entered into an NIL deal with Will Johnson, who was named the Defensive MVP Award winner in the college football national championship game earlier this year.

"We are thrilled that Will is partnering with our team,” UMCU CEO Tiffany Ford said in a statement. “The UMCU purpose is to amaze our members and community and to work together for our shared success, and Will fits so well in assisting us to fulfill this purpose. His commitment and drive on and off the field have amazed so many already. At UMCU we are dedicated to engaging the communities we serve, and we see the same dedication in Will. As an example, his creative Turnoverbuffs product line is a huge hit.”

Special Events Planned

Throughout the upcoming year, UMCU said it will offer its membership and community the opportunity to interact with Johnson at its branches and a variety of special events, acquire autographed memorabilia, and much more.

UMCU said it will launch a new product line of services with exclusive benefits.
