WASHINGTON—Credit unions are stepping up their visits to Washington this month, reports CUNA, which says that 19 CU leagues from 26 states will Hike the Hill in September.
The Nebraska Credit Union League and the Credit Union Association of New Mexico start their visits this week, with meetings scheduled on Capitol Hill at various regulators’ offices and at Credit Union House in Washington.
CUNA noted that its regulatory burden study will be a resource for leagues and CUs as they visit with policymakers. CUNA’s study shows that regulatory costs have ballooned since the inception of the Dodd-Frank Act, and it features a per-state cost breakdown, then breaks the statewide cost into a per-credit union and per-member cost breakdown, showing the lawmakers the need for true regulatory relief for credit unions, CUNA said.
CUNA staff will also make regular presentations during their visits from a political, advocacy and regulatory standpoints, the trade association added.
Also scheduled to Hike the Hill in the coming weeks are credit unions from Ohio, Washington, Oregon, West Virginia, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Delaware, Connecticut and Kentucky, according to CUNA’s Richard Gose.
