MADISON, Wis.—This week marks International Credit Union Week around the world. According to the World Council of Credit Unions, at year-end 2013 there were 56,904 credit unions globally serving 207,935,920 people. Overall credit union assets stood at $1.732 trillion. A random sampling of other events being held in conjunction with International CU Week:
- Credit unions in Michigan and elsewhere are gathering for “Lunch Local” campaigns.
- Across George, CUs are staging a “Switch to Save” campaign to encourage Georgians to stop by a credit union and see how it can save them money. Members and potential members are being encouraged to visit a CU branch and to bring in two months of statements from another type of financial institution to determine if switching their loan to the credit union will save them money.
- In Dorchester, England, First Dorset CU is offering free membership to all new savers signing up before Oct. 25.
