ANN ARBOR, Mich.–Credit unions are once again being invited to help celebrate International Credit Union Day in 2019 by participating in CU Lunch Local.
Now in its eighth year, CU Lunch Local seeks to demonstrate the impact credit unions have on the local economy when they collectively buy lunch, or even a cup of coffee from a local business.
The event is celebrated annually on the Tuesday (Oct. 15) before International Credit Union Day, which is October 17. CU Lunch Local is organized and sponsored by Michigan Business Connection.
“CU Lunch Local is about so much more than buying local,” says Bill Beardsley, president/CEO of Michigan Business Connection, in a statement. “It’s a fun and easy way to make an impact locally. Participating organizations have the opportunity to educate businesses about the credit union difference and get to eat some great food too. It continues to be an easy win-win, and we hope we see an even greater impact in 2019 than we did in previous years.”
In 2018, the event included more than 25 credit unions across the United States, in addition to the first international CU participant from Canada. To participate, visit https://www.mbcloans.biz/culunchlocal/.
Use of Hashtag Urged
“Then on October 15, join the festivities by grabbing your morning coffee from a local coffee shop, purchasing lunch for your staff, or picking up some tasty treats from a local bakery,” Michigan Business Connection said. “How the day is celebrated is 100% up to the organization participating. But remember, you’re not only celebrating with your staff and members, but your community as well.”
MBC added that on Oct. 15 participating organizations are encouraged to take to social media with the hashtag #culunchlocal to showcase their meals and restaurants of choice that support the CU Lunch Local movement.
