HARRISBURG, Penn.—CUNA said it is closely watching the outcome of a special election in Pennsylvania's 12th District.

CUNA Vice President of Political Affairs Trey Hawkins said the trade association expects a favorable outcome for credit unions, with Republican and “CU friend” Fred Keller taking the open House seat.

“We expect the first new member of Congress will be Keller,” said Hawkins. “We expect him to defeat the Democratic opponent (Marc Friedenberg). CULAC (CUNA’s Credit Union Legislative Action Council) and the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association are backing Keller. Keller has been a strong credit union champion in state legislature.”

Hawkins also noted that credit union representatives from the Northwest Credit Union Association are in Washington this week.

“It will be our first Hike the Hill of the year, and it’s just the first of many more to come throughout the year,” Hawkins said.
