WASHINGTON–CUNA is moving its Washington offices. In the Spring of 2018, the trade group will be moving its D.C. headquarters to a new building to be called 99M now under construction near Nationals Park in the Navy Yard area.
CUNA has signed a lease for approximately 22,000 square feet at 99 M St. SE, and has become the second office tenant to commit to Skanska USA Commercial Development’s Class A office building.
The 11-story building is seven blocks from the U.S. Capitol and will include approximately 220,000 square feet of office space, with approximately 11,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space on the ground floor. The building will also feature a green roof and rooftop terrace, a tenant-only, state-of-the-art fitness facility, secure bicycle storage and four levels of underground parking.
The area of D.C. is home to several big projects, including several mixed-use entertainment/office/residential buildings.
CUNA, which currently leases space just off the Washington Mall at 601 Pennsylvania Ave. Northwest, has been negotiating the space for several months.
“We’re excited about the open, collaborative environment we will build for our staff in this new space,” said Jim Nussle, CUNA’s president and CEO. “The vibrant neighborhood we’re moving to maintains our close connection to Capitol Hill and I know our membership will appreciate the long-term savings we’ll realize in this new space.”
Designed to meet the LEED Gold standard, 99M incorporates innovative techniques to reduce water and energy usage, and limits its impact on the natural environment. With breathtaking views of the Riverfront and the Capitol, it is a building that celebrates the best of the urban experience, according to a statement released by the developer.
