WASHINGTON—In another indicator of plans by CUNA and NAFCU to merge, CUNA President and CEO Jim Nussle is scheduled to appear at NAFCU’s annual Congressional Caucus, which takes place Sept. 10-13.
That time period will be just weeks after the two trade groups open voting on the merger, which seeks to create a new group to be called “America’s Credit Unions.”
During the Defense Credit Union Council’s annual meeting last week, at which both Nussle and NAFCU CEO Dan Berger appeared, Nussle indicated Congressional Caucus could continue to be held as a complement to CUNA’s annual GAC.
As for this year’s event, NAFCU said a key focus of will be the ongoing effort to oppose the Credit Card Competition Act.
NAFCU said that “Mastercard and Visa have partnered with NAFCU to bolster credit unions’ efforts to raise awareness with lawmakers about how this legislation would impact the industry: Credit union CEOs can have the registration fees for themselves and one additional person from their institution covered. For a limited time – while funds last.
The trade group is recommending credit unions to contact NAFCU Member Services via email or call 800-344-5580 to have previous registration reimbursed or register now for free.
Additional Speakers
Other speakers scheduled for Congressional Caucus include former Democratic National Committee leader Donna Brazile, who will appear with former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, as well as remarks from NCUA Board members, key lawmakers and administration officials.
