WASHINGTON–The first meeting of CUNA’s new CU System COVID 19 Restart and Recovery Task Force was held yesterday. CUNA CEO Jim Nussle said the task force is a CU system-wide “opportunity to foster dialogue” related to recovering from the pandemic and the resulting economic consequences.
Nussle said the task force is designed to identify a “path forward” for credit unions and to continue discussions that have already been taking place. He said he has participated in more than 30 meetings with groups at the state and regional levels over the past few months, which he said will continue.
“One thing we have discovered is credit unions have wanted to come together and discuss” issues related to recovering from the pandemic, Nussle said.
The exact number of people serving on the task force had not yet been determined at the time Nussle, along with CUNA’s chief engagement officer, Greg Michlig, spoke with the media, but the trade group said when the group is finalized a list of participants will be released.
Current Members of Task Force
Michlig said current members of the task force include Nussle, CUNA Chairman Troy Stang, and representatives from credit unions ranging in assets from $25 million to $9 billion. Others on the task force are Paul Marsh, CEO of Teachers CU in South Bend, Ind., and chairman of CUNA’s National Roundtable, which is for the largest CUs; Lori Herrick, CEO of Manchester Municipal FCU in Connecticut and chair of CUNA’s Small Credit Union Committee; Brad Miller, executive director of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues, representatives of various system partners, and others. Michlig said the group will represent a diversity of asset sizes and geography.
“We’ve had conversations to date with the credit unions to gather their insights on top priorities as they look forward to coming out of crisis,” said Michlig.
