CUNA Wins 2 Awards for Political Campaigning, Advocacy

WASHINGTON—CUNA has received two 2023 Reed Awards for political campaigning and grassroots advocacy for its efforts in the 2022 mid-term elections, the trade association reported.

The awards recognize excellence in political campaigning, grassroots, and advocacy.

CUNA’s issue ad urging constituents to thank Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) won Best Online Video for Public Affairs Campaign or Issue Advocacy.

A member communication from CUNA and the Nevada Credit Union League in support of Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) won Best Mail Piece for Independent Expenditure – House/Senate – Democratic.

“CUNA and leagues support policymakers who support the credit union difference. Our issue and political ads highlight the ways they support their constituents,” said Trey Hawkins, CUNA deputy chief advocacy officer for political action. “It’s an honor to be recognized for these ads that are part of our overall work supporting the credit union movement.”

‘Truly Honored’

“Our leagues are truly honored to be recognized with this unique award. This particular race was one of our nation’s most watched. It was a tight race from the beginning, so it was imperative to show our support for Senator Cortez Masto — as she has been a long-standing credit union champion for the past six years,” said Jennifer Denoo, chair of the Nevada Credit Union League and CEO of Great Basin FCU. “Coordinating with CUNA, our political communication targeted 200,000 Nevada credit union members and highlighted Senator Cortez Masto’s efforts to oppose taxation of credit unions, protect members’ financial data and personal privacy, and make it easier for credit unions to provide more affordable and consumer-friendly loans and services. Across the board, this was a significant win for credit union members. We could not be prouder.”
