SAN FRANCISCO–The CUNA Technology Council and CUNA Operations & Member Service Council have named winners of awards recognizing credit unions and CU professionals who demonstrate exceptional performance in their respective fields at the group’s annual meetings here.
The Excellence in Technology Awards recognize credit union technology professionals who have shown outstanding commitment and innovation in their field.
This year’s winners included:
- Best of Show: BCU in Vernon Hills, Ill. for its “Automation in Action” entry (assets greater than $500 million)
- Point Breeze CU in Hunt Valley, Md. for its “Web Isolation” entry (assets less than $500 million)
- Alliant CU in Chicago for its Consumer Lending Platform entry (assets greater than $500 million)
- Open Technology Solutions (OTS) in Centennial, Colo., in collaboration with Bellco CU, Bethpage FCU, State Employees CU of Maryland and Shared Service Solutions (S3) for their “Migration Tools and Process” entry (assets greater than $500 million)
- OCCU in Eugene, Ore. for its “CIO Dashboard in ServiceNow” entry (assets less than $500 million)

The Excellence in Operations & Member Experience Awards were presented to professionals who have facilitated unique, innovative, or otherwise outstanding approaches to member service at their credit unions.
This year’s winners included:
- Best of Show: Schools Financial CU in Sacramento, Calif., for its “Collaboration + Phenomenal Employees = Awesome Member Experience” entry (assets greater than $500 million) in the Sales and Service Management category
- OCCU in Eugene, Ore. in the Branch Design category for its Wilsonville Service Center entry (assets less than $500 million)
- Baton Rouge Telco FCU in Louisiana won in the Contact Center / E-Support Operations category for its “Redefining the Traditional Call Center” entry (assets $150 million - $500 million)
- Delta Community CU in Atlanta won in the Contact Center / E-Support Operations category for its “Delta Community's Member Care Center” entry (assets greater than $500 Million)
- Directions CU in Toledo, Ohio won in the Miscellaneous category for its “SEAL Teams” entry (assets greater $500 million)
- Service CU in Portsmouth, NH, won in the Sales and Service Management category for its “Communication Equals Success” entry (assets greater than $500 million)
Professional of the Year
The Professional of the Year Award recognizes the individual who exemplifies excellence in all aspects of operations and member experience.
This year’s winner is Wendie Ellis, AVP branch and loan operations, Numerica CU in Spokane Valley, Wash.
The Rising Star Award recognizes and honors an emerging operations and member experience professional in the credit union industry. This year’s winner is Kathleen Johnson, Sales Operations Specialist at Delta Community CU in Atlanta.
Top Community Contributors
The Top Community Contributor Awards recognize the value and expertise shared with peers through collaboration within Councils Community.
This year’s winners include:
- CUNA Technology Council winner: Richard Borden, Vice President of IT/ISO, Blackhawk Community CU, Janesville, Wis.
