CUNA Senior Execs Meet With NCUA Chair; GAC Keynoter Named

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle, EVP/Chief Advocacy Officer Robert Lewis, and Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Federal Government Affairs Jason Stverak met with NCUA Chairman Todd Harper to discuss credit union priorities.

“We thank Chairman Harper for his time as we work with NCUA on issues facing credit unions in a challenging economic environment,” Nussle said.

The discussion included credit unions’ future role in the digital assets space and the importance of the Central Liquidity Facility to credit unions, particularly smaller ones, according to the trade association.

CUNA noted it has been engaged with NCUA on installing a floating federal credit union interest rate cap. The NCUA board, which voted to extend the fixed 18% rate cap for 18 more months, has asked agency staff at its January board meeting to explore the legality of a floating cap.

Meanwhile, CUNA said Peter Diamandis, founder and executive chairman of XPRIZE Foundation and executive chairman of Singularity University, will provide a keynote address at its 2023 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC). Diamondis, a best-selling author and futurist, will demonstrate the disruptive power of exponential technologies and how you can identify opportunities to innovate and transform your business—before someone else does, CUNA said.

“Peter Diamandis’ perspective is one that every credit union leader will find value in hearing,” said Todd Spiczenski, CUNA chief products and services officer. “His view of what lies ahead and how we can solve for it through exponential technologies is critical for our industry’s preparedness and growth.”

Diamandis’s keynote address will take place on Feb. 27.
