WASHINGTON—CUNA has written to the leadership of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to urging them to include House report language in any final
appropriations legislation for fiscal year 2019.
The House and Senate are in Washington this week and are expected to continue negotiations to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.
CUNA said it worked with House appropriators last year to include three provisions in three different appropriations bills, however, none have been enacted into law.
The provisions include language that states:
- The Department of Justice should clarify website accessibility standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The language notes CUNA’s argument that the confusion due to lack of standards “disadvantages small businesses that provide essential services for our communities.”
- The Secretary of State is encouraged to expand opportunities for small businesses or cooperatives to compete for State Department contracts.
- The Federal Communications Commission should clarify the aspects of its 2015 Telephone Consumer Protection Act interpretation that were struck down in court, including the definition of an autodialer and how businesses should treat re-assigned numbers.
