CUNA, Other Groups Found Diversity Equity and Inclusion Collective; Illinois’ CUs Join AACUC’s ‘Commitment to Change'

WASHINGTON—CUNA announced it is among the founding organizations of the Credit Union Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Collective, a group within the credit union movement devoted to furthering DEI.

The collective launched Friday, June 19, or Juneteeth, the day commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S.

“The CU DEI Collective stands in solidarity with the African American and Black community and pledges to fight alongside against systemic oppression and racism. Our mission is to bring forth social, economic, political, and legal justice for combatting centuries of violent oppression and systemic racism everywhere,” reads part of the collective’s mission statement. “We call on all members of the Credit Union Movement to apply our cooperative principles to create real, meaningful, transformative, and sustained change. We want to be a catalyst for this change.”

Other organizations that are part of the DEI Collective include the African-American CU Coalition, American Association of CU Leagues, Coopera, CO-OP Financial Services, CUNA Mutual Group, Filene, the National CU Foundation, humanidei, inclusive, the Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals, PSCU, the World Council and your Credit Union partner.

ICUS Joins AACUC Initiative

In Illinois, theIllinois Credit Union System (ICUS) joined the African American Credit Union Coalition’s “Commitment to Change: Credit Unions Unite Against Racism” initiative. The League Service Corp is sponsoring 100 individual memberships for LSC and Illinois Credit Union League credit union partners to join AACUC.

“The decision to sponsor these individual memberships to AACUC is based on our long-standing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said ICUS President/CEO Tom Kane. “I look forward to working with credit unions to support these important values throughout our communities.”

The association said the initiative is an opportunity for credit unions to participate in a common mission with ICUS and AACUC to increase diversity within the credit union community through advocacy and professional development.
