WASHINGTON–CUNA has announced award-winning journalist, documentarian and author Soledad O’Brien will be the keynoter for its upcoming virtual Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), March 2-4, 2021.
“O’Brien will share her thoughts on today’s most pressing issues, including income inequality and our current political landscape,” said CUNA.
The keynote session is sponsored by PSCU.
O’Brien anchors and produces the political magazine program Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien and reports regularly for HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. She is the CEO of Soledad O’Brien Productions, a multi-platform media production company dedicated to sharing empowering and authentic stories. O’Brien is also a respected documentarian whose films have addressed youth incarceration, PTSD and the opioid epidemic, CUNA added.
“O’Brien is well known for her work in television journalism. She anchored news shows on CNN, MSNBC, and NBC; hosted projects for Fox and A&E; and has contributed to a variety of outlets including the three major broadcast networks, National Geographic, and PBS,” CUNA said.
Emmy Award Winner
O’Brien’s reporting has earned three Emmy awards, two George Foster Peabody awards, and an Alfred I. DuPont Award.
“Many of the communities we serve have been hit hard by COVID-19, and the disparate impact of the pandemic has prompted our nation to initiate more courageous conversations around income inequality and racial inequity,” said CUNA CEO Jim Nussle. “And at a time when we, as Americans, most need to come together, we are struggling to heal deep political divisions” said Jim Nussle, CUNA president/CEO. “We are looking forward to welcoming O’Brien for a frank discussion on the path forward.”
