CUNA Mutual Group Adds New Board Member

MADISON, Wis. – CUNA Mutual Group has added a new member to its board.

Kevin D. Johnson

Kevin D. Johnson, president and CEO of Suncoast CU in Tampa, Fla., has joined the board and replaces  Bert J. Hash, Jr., who is retiring after 13 years of service.

Johnson has spent more than three decades in the financial services industry, all at Suncoast, which serves more than 747,000 members. Suncoast is the largest credit union by asset size in Florida and the 12th largest in the U.S.

Before being named president and CEO in 2016, Johnson spent 16 years as the credit union’s senior vice president and then executive vice president and chief information officer. As CIO, he oversaw the creation of Suncoast’s online mobile banking capabilities, including a robust mobile app developed and launched internally featuring a completely online application process. His vast technical background encompasses information technology, cyber security, data analytics, digital delivery and operations, CUNA Mutual said.

“Kevin is a successful, results-oriented leader who is deeply committed to the credit union movement,” said Robert N. Trunzo, president and CEO, CUNA Mutual Group. “His technical expertise will benefit our board and company as we continue investing in data, technology and new capabilities to advance our innovation strategy.”

Johnson serves on the boards of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions, Southeastern Credit Union Foundation, MEMBERS Development Company and Hillsborough Education Foundation.

“It is an honor to join the board of CUNA Mutual Group, a progressive and valuable partner in our industry that helps credit unions solve business challenges,” said Johnson. “I look forward to lending my industry and technical expertise and offering support to credit unions and their members through service to this board.”

Hash left the CUNA Mutual board after retiring as president/CEO of Municipal Employees Credit Union of Baltimore. “Bert was a tremendous asset to our board of directors for so many years. I want to thank him for his leadership, support and guidance during his tenure.” Trunzo said.
