CUNA Marketing & BD Council Announces Top Award Winners; CEO Council Names Exec Committee

ORLANDO–The CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council has presented its annual Diamond marketing awards across a number of categories, while the CUNA CEO Council has announced its new executive committee and board members.

The marketing awards were announced during the Council’s annual meeting here.

Recognized with top awards were:

  • 2023 Top Community Contributor Award (winner for the second consecutive year): Marc Buchanan, chief marketing and digital banking officer, LOC Federal Credit Union, Farmington, Mich.
  • 2023 Rising Star Award: LaShanta Green, director of marketing and community relations, Dow Credit Union, Midland, Mich.
  • 2023 Community Outreach Professional of the Year Award: Rachel Bond, AVP - community engagement and public relations, Greater Texas Federal Credit Union, Austin
  • 2023 Marketing Professional of the Year Award: Rachel Mouser, director of marketing, Financial Plus Credit Union, Flint, Mich.
  • 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award: Colleen Desselle, chief marketing officer, CSE Federal Credit Union, Lake Charles, La.

‘Impassioned Professionals’

“These awards recognize professionals who are impassioned to create superlative campaigns highlighting their credit unions,” said Lynn Heider, recognition awards chair and VP-communications and public affairs with the GoWest Credit Union Association. “Through their efforts, communities around the country continue to learn about how important credit unions are.”

New CUNA CEO Council Exec Committee

Separately, the CUNA CEO Council named three new credit union CEOs to its 2023-24 Executive Committee. 

New to the executive committee are:

  • Kent Lugrand, president & CEO, InTouch Credit Union, Plano, Texas
  • David Tuyo, president & CEO, University Credit Union, Los Angeles
  • Mike Valentine, president & CEO, BCU, Vernon Hills, IL

Lugrand and Valentine were elected to vacancies created by the departure of Rudy Pereira, CEO of PremierAmerica Credit Union and Stephanie Sievers, CEO of AltaOne FCU, who completed their terms on the executive committee. Tuyo was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Maurice Smith, who retired in January.

The 2023-2024 CUNA CEO Council Executive Committee also includes:

  • Gerry Agnes – president & CEO, Elevations Credit Union, Boulder, Colo.
  • Jackie Buchanan – president & CEO, Genisys Credit Union - Auburn Hills, Mich.
  • Sandi Carangi – president & CEO, Mercer County Community FCU, Hermitage, Penn.
  • April Clobes – president & CEO, Michigan State University FCU, East Lansing, Mich.
  • Keith Kauffeld – president & CEO, University of Nebraska FCU, Lincoln, Neb.
  • Jason Lindstrom, president & CEO, Evergreen Credit Union, Portland, Maine
  • Linda Rossi – president & CEO,  Ventura County CU, Ventura, Calif.
  • Suzanne Weinstein – president & CEO, Orlando Credit Union, Florida

Additionally, it was announced that the new chair of the group is Jackie Buchanan, taking over from Maurice Smith, who served as chair or the executive committee from March 2021 until January of this year. Suzanne Weinstein is the group’s new vice chair.
