WASHINGTON–Credit unions are watching three state primaries and a run-off today.
The primaries in which candidates have backing from CUNA’s Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) and the respective state leagues include Minnesota, Vermont and Wisconsin, with the run-off taking place in Georgia.
In all, said CUNA’s Trey Hawkins, credit unions are supporting 14 candidates, 13 in races for the House and one in a Senate race (Sen. Tina Smith (D), the incumbent).
In Wisconsin’s fifth district, credit unions are supporting Republican Scott Fitzgerald to fill a seat being vacated in a district that is solidly red.
To date, said Hawkins, credit unions have provided financial support to 300 candidates, 97% of whom have won their races.
