CUNA Increases Political Support

WASHINGTON—CUNA reported it has set a record in providing financial support to credit union supporters as the midterm elections approach, with approximately $5.6-million having been spent to date.

The trade group said additional contributions will be disclosed before the midterms. CUNA said that it and its federal PAC, CULAC, have deployed direct mail, as well as TV, radio and online advertisements for candidates on a bipartisan basis. Approximately $3 million has been spent on direct PAC contributions, $1.2 million on independent expenditures and $1.4 million on partisan communications.

More than 80 separate pieces of direct mail, resulting in more than 2.1 million individual mailings, have been sent to more than 417,000 credit union members – all of which are registered voters, according to CUNA.

Candidates who have received support during the general election include: Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO); Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY); Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA); Pete Aguilar (D, CA-31), a former credit union employee; Rep. Steve Southerland (R-FL); Rep. Ami Bera (D, CA-7); Rep. Cheri Bustos (D, IL-17); Rep. Rodney Davis (R, IL-13); Rep. Rick Nolan (D, MN-8); Rep. Joe Heck (R, NV-3); Rep. Tom Reed (R, NY-23); and Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR).
