CUNA Formally Kicks Off Its Campaign For Common Sense

WASHINGTON—CUNA has formally kicked off its Campaign for Common-Sense Regulation, a CUNA/league effort to drive CU industry support to eliminate excessive regulations on credit unions.

CUNA introduced the campaign in December.

CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle said he sees 2017 as the strongest year yet for possible credit union advocacy victories on the regulatory relief front.

With a new administration interested in reducing regulations and a pro-credit union majority in Congress, Nussle said the industry is poised for an even more successful year than 2016, “when CUNA, the leagues and their member credit unions achieved a number of significant victories, including reduced frequency of examinations, new field-of-membership rules, and much more.”

Nussle Monday was featured on the trade association’s website in the first of a four-part series that formally introduced the campaign. In a Q-and-A, Nussle discussed CUNA accomplishments on Capitol Hill last year, what’s ahead in 2017, and how CUs and their members can continue to play a role in driving regulatory relief for credit unions.

CUNA is holding a webinar that will explain how CUs can get involved in the campaign on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. ET.
