WASHINGTON—CUNA has confirmed the “cyber incident” it experienced this week that shut down many of its systems and led to the trade association sending staff home on Monday was indeed ransomware.
Sources outside CUNA had previously suggested to CUToday.info the issue could be a malware attack, possibly ransomware.
In a previous statement CUNA did not confirm or deny whether malware was the culprit, and stated the trade association immediately initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party experts, taking steps to remediate the issue.
On Wednesday CUNA reported its systems were restored.
CUNA Friday told CUToday.info that its investigations confirmed the incident was caused by ransomware.
“As soon as we were able to confirm the cause of the incident, we shared this information with our members,” stated Vicki Christner, CUNA vice president of strategic communications.
