CUNA/CULAC Make Final Media Buy for 3 Reps Up for Re-Election

WASHINGTON–CUNA and its PAC, the Credit Union Legislative Action Council, have announced the last of their general election ad buys in the current election cycle.

CUNA/CULAC, which are spending $7 million as part of the overall effort, has put its newest dollars behind credit union champions with a series of independent expenditures (IEs) and member communications aimed at reelecting three vulnerable incumbents in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Rep. Jared Golden

The three candidates receiving support via directed targeted mail and digital video advertisements to voters and credit union members are:

  • Rep. Jared Golden, Democrat in Maine’s 2nd congressional district
  • Rep. Susie Lee, Democrat in Nevada’s 3rd congressional district
  • Rep. Steve Chabot, Republican in Ohio’s 1st congressional district

“We are adamant about supporting candidates who recognize and support the credit union difference for consumers across the country,” said Trey Hawkins, CUNA Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer for Political Action. “With no preference for one party or the other, we remain focused on helping those who help credit unions and their 120 million members.”

Unlike most political ads voters see in a general election, CUNA said its ads feature positive messages to sway voters’ opinions.

As CUToday.info reported earlier, already this cycle, CUNA/CULAC have launched IEs and credit union member communications supporting four incumbent senators and four incumbent representatives, in addition to those above.

“Forty-four percent of registered voters belong to a credit union, and by reminding these consumers just how important it is that they not only vote, but that their vote has a direct impact on their credit union, we want to make sure that credit union members make their voice heard,” added Hawkins.
