ATLANTA–Even though it is being sued over its new name, that hasn’t stopped the new Truist Bank from putting its name on the baseball stadium that is home to the Atlanta Braves.
The park has been known as SunTrust Park, but SunTrust has now completed a merger with BB&T Bank with the combined institution operating as Truist.
As CUToday.info most recently reported here, Truliant FCU has filed suit over the new name, arguing it is too similar to its own and will cause confusion, especially when consumers conduct online searches.
Truliant CU is based in Winston-Salem, N.C.; the new Truist headquarters are in Charlotte, N.C.
The Truist name has come in for some criticism since it was announced. CNN said the name has been “oft-ridiculed.”
The official name of the park has yet to be announced, whether it will be Truist Park, Truist Financial Stadium or use some other name. The bank said it will take up to two years to change the signage at the ballpark, which opened in 2017.
