HIGHLAND PARK, Mich.—Cars lined up for blocks and drivers waited hours Wednesday for free gas from One Detroit Credit Union.
The CU gave away $10,000 worth of free gas at the BP station on the corner of Woodward and Glendale here. Each driver received $20 in fuel, WXYZ Detroit reported.
The giveaway was held not only to share the credit union difference with consumers but also to promote the CU’s Refi My Ride program, which allows people to lower their monthly car payments by cutting their interest rates in half.
One Detroit President Hank Hubbard was at the gas station to talk to drivers.
“People don’t always know they can refinance their car loan and we can save them on average 60 dollars a month,” Hubbard told WXYZ. “And while we are giving them $20 worth of gas today, 60 bucks is three more tanks.”
