CU Tax Fight: 'Don’t Tax My Credit Union' Message Generates More Than 73 Million Impressions

WASHINGTON--America’s Credit Unions, leagues, and credit unions are meeting with members of Congress in person (both in district and D.C.), sending messages online--with more than 550,000 so far--and delivering handwritten postcards  by the thousands to lawmakers’ offices, America's Credit Unions reported.

The strategy also includes a digital ad campaign which targets dozens of key members in both the House and Senate. The ads emphasize increasing daily costs and economic uncertainty for all Americans and note that changing the credit union tax status would continue to raise costs while hampering access to safe and affordable financial services.

Since launching Jan. 17, the ad campaign and its “Don’t Tax My Credit Union” message has generated more than 73 million impressions, ACU said.

The campaign is funded through the National Advocacy Fund, which supports proactive advocacy initiatives that go beyond regular lobbying and grassroots efforts. NAF contributors include hundreds of credit unions, leagues, business advocates, and other stakeholders, ACU noted.

"Tax writers are putting pen to paper drafting legislation, with the House Ways and Means Committee likely to mark its bill up in the coming weeks, and draft legislation is likely to be released before that," ACU said.

Stakeholders can send messages of support for the credit union tax status through the Don’t Tax My Credit Union website, and America’s Credit Unions also has resources that include a social media toolkit, press kit, grassroots handbook, and more.
