CU-Sponsored Cherry Blossom Run, Sac Town Run Set For This Weekend

WASHINGTON/SACRAMENTO, Calif.–Credit union-sponsored races and other events that raise money for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals are taking place this weekend on both coasts.

In Washington, credit unions will once again be sponsoring the high-profile Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, while in Sacramento, Calif., credit unions from the California and Nevada leagues are again sponsoring and volunteering to stage the SacTown Run.

In Washington, for the 12th consecutive year, PSCU will be underwriting the title sponsorship expenses Credit Union Cherry Blossom run along with CUNA Mutual Group when the race takes place on Sunday.

PSCU employees will also be running in the race and acting as volunteers.

“The annual event is instrumental in showcasing the value of the credit union community and the credit union movement at a local level,” PSCU said. “Credit unions throughout the U.S. proudly join together each year as the title sponsor of the event, which benefits the Children’s Miracle Network.”

PSCU said that with new members of Congress taking office this year following the 2018 midterm elections, now is a “more critical time than ever for credit union awareness and advocacy. Credit unions can earn a spot on the legislative agenda by assembling the power and voices of the national trade associations and state leagues, addressing public policy issues and blanketing Capitol Hill with the credit union message.”

One of the most visible ways of raising awareness is the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run, said PSCU.

More Than $9 Million Raised

At the culmination of this year’s race, Credit Union Miracle Day is projected to have raised over $9 million for the international non-profit since 2002.

PSCU’s race teams are comprised of employees from all PSCU locations, selected in a company-wide lottery. This year’s team will be competing as the PSCU Possibilities Delivered race team.

The SacTown Run

Separately, in Sacramento, the Sac Town Run will take place in downtown Sacramento. At its conclusion, representatives from the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues and SacTown Run Committee Chairman and Diablo Valley FCU CEO John Pamer will present a check representing the money raised for local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals as part of the event.

After the press conference, there will be a medal ceremony and race around the hospital unit with patients from U.C. Davis Children’s Hospital. Travis CU is scheduled to provide its mascot and credit unions will provide goodie bags for the children.

Sponsors of the SacTown Run include the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, CO-OP Financial Services, CU Direct, CUNA Mutual Group, Golden 1 Credit Union, First Tech Credit Union, Patelco Credit Union, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, Travis Credit Union, Wescom Credit Union, and Walmart.
