CU-Sponsored African-American Festival Kicks Off Today

TOLEDO–The 15th annual African American Festival hosted by Toledo Urban FCU will kick off today here. The three-day event offers everything from live music to free health screenings.

Launched in 2004, the event was initially launched to promote history, health, and education in the African American community. It has now grown to celebrate African American history, culture, and the future of the community “while supporting and showcasing unity.”

A parade on Saturday includes more than 50 participants ranging from city officials to area dance organizations. There will also be performances from Confunkshun - “heroes of funk,” The ZAPP Band, and R&B singer Angela Winbush. Most events take place at or near Seagate Center, the credit union said.

General admission is $15 in advance with VIP tickets for $25. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union.
