CU Social Good Program Tracks More Than $11M In Good Works During 2017

BISMARCK, N.D.–The 335 credit unions participating in the CU Social Good program during 2017 provided more than $11.3 million in benefits to communities, according to new data.

The Credit Union Association of the Dakotas, which oversees the CU Social Good program, said the benefits were provided to communities, schools, charitable organizations, financial education events, and investments in further education. The information was collected from the 1,250 stories that were submitted last year, the CUAD said.

CU Social Good is a platform that allows credit unions to record and track their community efforts, and further allows those outside the CU community to see the initiatives, as well.

According to the CUAD, the 2017 totals represented by the CU Social Good program include:

  • Cash Money Donated: $7,764,625.00
  • Value of Non-Monetary Donations: $519,083.00
  • Educational Scholarships Awarded: $1,438,800.00
  • CU4Kids/CMN Hospitals Donations: $1,634,943.00
  • Volunteer and Financial Literacy Event Hours: 37,916

The Credit Union Association of the Dakotas said 2018 is already off to a strong start and that to date approximately 360 stories that have been shared indicating the following community impact:

  • Cash Money Donated: $1,448,490.00
  • Value of Non-Monetary Donations: $157,105.00
  • Educational Scholarships Awarded: $427,900
  • CU4Kids/CMN Hospitals Donations: $396,200
  • Volunteer and Financial Literacy Event Hours: 12,210

The CUAD said CU Social Good sponsors include the Nebraska Credit Union League, Tennessee Credit Union League, The Wisconsin Credit Union League, Illinois Credit Union League, Heartland Credit Union Association, Northwest Credit Union Association, American Association of Credit Union Leagues, Association of Vermont Credit Unions, Minnesota Credit Union Network, LSC, Mississippi Credit Union Association, Montana’s Credit Unions, and Credit Union Association of the Dakotas.
