DALLAS—Employees of City Credit Union here, which serves policy officers in this city, will be wearing blue this week to show support for the men and women of law enforcement, the credit union reported.
The move follows the death of five police officers who were killed last week by a gunman.
“We’ve also asked that our associates take the time to show their appreciation and gratitude through a kind word or gesture, as this could mean the world to our officers during this difficult time,” said Jen Hernandez, City CU marketing manager. “City CU associates will also be traveling to first responders around each of our branch locations delivering food, gift baskets and showing our support for their service.”
City CU President and CEO Sharon Moore said that everyone at the credit union is trying to find “normal” after last week’s tragedy.
“DART and City of Dallas employees are a visible segment of our membership and many are friends of our City CU family,” said Moore. “I think we are all grieving in some way for the lives lost, the devastation to the families of the fallen officers, and the long-term impact to our community and nation. We are doing everything we can to help raise funds for the families of the police officers that were killed last week and are reaching out individually and as an organization to help provide financial and emotional support for the brave men and women that protect us.”
The credit union explained that the Dallas Police Department has asked that the credit union direct all donation requests through two officially endorsed websites:
- The Dallas Foundation, http://dallasfoundation.org/
- Assist the Officer, http://atodallas.org/
“All donations submitted to these two websites will be equally divided amongst all five of the fallen officers and their families,” said Hernandez. “In an effort to get the word out, City CU has provided this information on our website and via in-branch media and social media sites. City CU will also be making a donation to each organization.”
