CU Seeking to Break A Guinness World Record Today

EDMONTON, Alberta–Servus Credit Union has invited the public to help it break a Guinness World Record today in conjunction with its “Servus Circle Day.”

In celebration of Servus Circle Day, the credit union said it plans to break the Guinness World Record for the largest human currency symbol at Servus's corporate centre here. It is seeking at least 2,000 people to break the record. Servus CU said it will donate $1 to KidSport for every person who is part of the Guinness World Record attempt. Donations to KidSport help to make a difference in children's lives, who cannot participate in organized sports due to financial barriers, the CU said.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the current record for the largest human currency symbol included 1,530 participants and was achieved by North Allerdale Development Trust in the United Kingdom in October 2016. The participants formed the pound symbol.

"Servus Circle Day is about bringing our communities together, to show that we can accomplish extraordinary things, (such as) the attempt to break a world record with the largest human currency symbol," said Gail Stepanik-Keber, chief brand, digital banking and corporate social responsibility officer at Servus Credit Union. "If we are successful in our attempt, it will truly be an example of people coming together to do something extraordinary."

The Servus' Circle Day event will also include games, freebies, a caricature artist and the chance to win one of two BBQ prize packages. Local food trucks will be on site to purchase food from and the NOW! Trucksicle will be giving away popsicles during the event. CTV's Josh Classen is the emcee for the event. The first 500 people to arrive will also receive $10 in free food truck bucks.
