CU Reviewing Training After Robber Turned Away Without Cash

YPSILANTI, Mich.–Washtenaw FCU here said it is reviewing its robbery training after an employee turned away a robber during an attempted robbery last week.

The robber presented a note demanding cash but showed no weapon, and the employee refused to provide the cash. The robber fled the branch.

Washtenaw FCU President and CEO Jason Matley told MLive.com that “Our policy does not state that employees handle it that way. I think the employee was caught up in the moment and more shocked than anything else."

Matley said that based on the video he believes the suspect may have panicked and fled, MLive.com reported, and he reiterated that tellers are trained to provide what is asked of them in a bank robbery. It is believed to be the first robbery attempt at the credit union in 15 years.
