PANAMA CITY, Fla. – A credit union here has received a check–31 years after it was sent.
Innovations FCU reports it has been delivered a check that was written out and mailed on Jan. 29,1987.
"The check originated in Honolulu, Hawaii and was mailed to our post office box and somewhere along the line it went missing for 32 years" David Southall, president of Innovation FCU, was quoted by Mypanhandle.com as saying.
Perhaps most amazing, the credit union reported: the check and envelope are in excellent condition.
"The envelope and the check were fine they looked like they were just written the day before in perfect condition," Southall told Mypanhandle.com.
The working theory is the check became lost somewhere in the U.S. Postal Service system, perhaps under a machine, which helped preserve it.
